Bounce Back after a Binge

I’m sure we all can relate to this problem of overeating. It’s so prevalent in our culture, it’s almost considered “normal.” However, this is not a good thing! Childhood obesity has skyrocketed in the past few years- it’s even seen in babies as young as 6 months old. How crazy is that???? While there is nothing wrong with enjoying sweets and treats every now and then (in fact, I recommend it!), constantly bingeing and losing control of what you are eating is not good!

Not only does bingeing have effects on your physical body, but also your mental state. During a binge, you have given up all self control and have succumbed to the temptation of food. While this can lead to weight gain, diabetes, and a number of health concerns, this harms your mental and emotional state. You feel defeated, overwhelmed, and even disgusted with yourself. This overflows into other areas of your life- you lose motivation to workout, to perform well in activities, to work hard, and to live up to your potential. This is so dangerous!! When you let yourself go in one area of life, what's holding you back from giving up in other areas too? Your attitude towards one thing reflects your attitude towards life.

Alright, so bingeing is bad. It has only negative effects. But what happens if you binge again? First of all, don't beat yourself up! This is the worst thing you can do, as it will lead to only more overeating. Realize that what happened is in the past, and you can't change it. But you can change your future. Forgive yourself and move on!

Make sure you are drinking water. Water will help to move things through your system and chase away bloating. After a period of overeating, when you need to eat again, choose something nutritious. And I don't mean go on a diet, that may only lead to more bingeing! I mean for your very next MEAL, have something with protein and micronutrients- think lean chicken and a yummy salad. This will make you feel GREAT, inside and out:)

The next day, do NOT restrict your calories!!! You may be so full you don't eat as much, and that's okay. But don't starve yourself, it will only make matters worse! You body needs to be fueled with good foods, so give your body what it needs! Like I said, starting a diet might be the worst thing you can do. If you already have healthy eating habits in place, go back to how you usually eat. If you don't, then slowly, SLOWLY, eat more nutritious meals, and less junky ones. Whether you want to eat intuitively, track macros, go paleo, whatever, find what works for you and stick to it! If you are just beginning to eat healthier, then start learning what is really in foods. I recommend using a macro calculator like this one, or this one, to give you some guidelines. Tracking your food in an app like Lifesum will help you to learn what is in foods! You don't have to track your food forever, but I think it is the most helpful way to start develop good eating habits.

I know I have struggled with bingeing so much in the past, but as I slowly built good eating habits and became more consistence in them, I barely ever binge! There is always hope, you are never too lost:)

I hope this was helpful to you guys! Also, I am wanting to put a couple different workout programs together, would anyone be interested?
