Puggles

I just realized that I haven’t made a post about my dog; a puggle named Daisy. Here I am, blogging about all these different dog breeds, when I haven’t even talked about my dogs breed!! So, what is a ‘puggle’ ? A puggle is a cross between a Pug and a Beagle. They weigh between 15 and 25 pounds(depending if the beagle is a pocket beagle(they are smaller than most beagles)). Sometimes, they have a smushed face(like a puggie poo) or a flatter face like a beagle. They also have a cute curly tail and an adorable under bite from the pug. They have a longer body(beagle) and have a shoulder height of approx. 1 ft. Puggles are a very smart cross-breed. They are VERY food oriented(that means they will do just about anything for a treat!). Even though they got the brains, that doesn’t mean they aren’t stubborn. Puggles can be very stubborn at times. But they can learn commands including: sit, down, stay, fetch, roll over, shake, come, shake, etc. Puggles have tons of energy and love...

Designer Dogs

Eek!! Designer Dogs!!! They are pretty cool!!! My dog is a designer dog( Pug + Beagle = Pug gle ) Anyway, designer dogs actually started with crossing poodles(for the hypoallergenic* fur) and another dog(for the other desired characteristics). This is probably why poodle mixes are SO popular! D. dogs(Designer dogs) are identified by the portmanteau names. Portmanteau means crossing two words to get one fabulastic(haha thats one right there!!) word. Ex.- Schnauzer + Poodle = Sch oodle . D. dogs are usually a combo of 2 dogs, but on occasion there is three- German Shepherd + Husky + Chow Chow = German Ch usky . D. dogs can be used for jobs that other dogs cannot fulfill- suppose there is a blind man, desperately in need of a guide dog, but he is also allergic to dogs!! OH NO!! But since poodles are hypoallergenic, and Labs make GREAT guide dogs, if you bred these breeds, you would end up with a hypoallergenic guide dog!!! Now this man can have a guide dog, with out suffering from ...

All About Guide Dogs!!

Guide dogs help blind or visually handicapped people by "guiding" them around obstacles(like keeping them safe while crossing through traffic), being their constant companion, and even helping their handler with everyday things: such as picking up dropped items, bringing items to them(soda, slippers, etc.), and even putting on your socks. Guide dogs help these handicapped people do things they could not do by themselves. Blind people all over the world have adopted these special seeing eye dogs. The first guide dog training camps started during World War I, in Germany, to assist injured veterans. The most common breeds of seeing eye dogs include, but are not limited to: German Shepherds, Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Labradoodles(Lab and Poodle)(for blind people with allergies). For more information about guide dogs, you can visit your local library(they PROBABLY have at least one or two books about guide dogs) or you can check out the link below * .  Also, below that, ther...

Dogs: What are they?

"Well, what are dogs? Personally(ya, when you have your own blog, you can put your own opinions!!!), I believe that dogs are an amazing creature that God put on this earth, kind of like a mini best friend for us!!! A piece of God Himself. Angels in disguise. They always know(somehow!!) how to comfort us; they lick the tears off of our face when someone hurts us. Dogs are always ready to snuggle down when it's raining. Ever ready to play fetch to get our minds off of how horrible our lives are. Dogs try their best to please us and make us feel better. Studies show that stroking a dog lowers our blood pressure. They put us in comfort. Every time they lick your hand, it's a "kiss of bliss". It honestly breaks my heart to see all the dogs in the shelters or wandering down the street when it's pouring rain. They put enough on the table, it's our turn. Now it's time for you to reach out to all the hungry dogs without a home. No one tho care for them. No on...

Dog Walking: Part 1

One of my close friends is starting a dog walking business to earn money for a school field trip; she said that she put of posters 2 weeks ago, and nobody has called! I can relate to that situation; I have a dog walking business too(in a different town, of course!), and it can, and usually does, take a loooooooong time for people to contact you. Oregon TailBlazers*(my dog walking company) has been in operation for about 2 years now(my first job was on July 4th, 2012), and I only have one regular(and SO AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!! and SO AMAZINGLY NICE!!!!!!) customer. So I make sure that she gets the best of the best; I will always walk her dog(River), unless I'm not going to be here or something else like that. And I always reply to her ASAP(even if I'm at school). To be continued... * http://www.oregontailblazers.com

Pomeranian

Image
Pomeranians(or Poms, Pom-Poms. Pommies) are teeny tiny dogs(only 3-7 lbs!!!) that are labeled as "yappy dogs". Which is true; they have a very high energy level. Poms can have medium-long length hair, which can be a variety of colors including red, orange, cream and sable, black, brown and blue, brindle, white, or parti-color! The most popular color is red/orange. But along with that beautiful coat comes moderate shedding, regular brushing, and trimming(their coat) is optional. You can have it professionally done, or there are YouTube videos on how to trim your own dogs fur; it's pretty easy! Poms are very tiny, so they need to have gentle handling, so best for older kids and supervision for children 7 and under; they excel in obedience and therapy(with the right training, of course!). Beware: these dogs ARE happy, and don't do outdoors and small kids. Choosing a Dog for Dummies by Chris Walkowicz

Boston Terrier: Cute But Tough

Boston Terriers are, like, SO cute(again, who have to be a person who likes wrinkles and smushed faces; on dogs of course!)!!!! Bosties(my personal nickname) are small dogs, not teeny(cause, ya know, they're tough), but a good lap dog size(if they sit on your lap...) and a muscular build. A healthy Bostie weight is from 15-25 lbs, if they weigh 30+, then "lay off the kibble, man!". Most people know Boston Terriers as black and white dogs, although they can be brindle and white or seal and white. The most common is probably black and white(one way to tell Boston Terriers apart from French Bulldogs is this:(usually) bosties are black and white, frenchies are tan/blonde/creme and white). Bosties have a moderate to high energy level; mellows with age. Their shedding and grooming is minimal; brush weekly and bathe monthly. These cute fellows do best with(for training) positive reinforcement and TONS of attention!!! They are great with kids, and excel in agility and obedience ...

Chinese Shar-Pei

Chinese Shar-Peis are quite interesting dogs. They are medium size, about 40-65 lbs. They have tons of wrinkles, so you gotta be the kinda person who loves dogs with pushed in faces and wrinkles(pugs, shar-peis, boxers, french bulldog, etc.). Shar-Peis are solid colors, usually tannish. sometimes even a little pink! They have a pretty low energy level; when they're younger they will probably have a more moderate energy level. Good for elderly people or a laid back person(totally NOT saying that laid back people are like old people, and I'm not comparing them to elderly people!! I'm not offending any person's personality or age, 'cuz someday I will be elderly to!!). Brush their short coat regularly(and who knows how often regularly is!! it could be everyday or every week!). I am guessing that brushing them weekly is good.   They do shed.  **IMPORTANT FACT: MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THEIR EARS ONCE A WEEK** It's just good to do that regularly, too. Chinese Shar-Peis nee...

Happy 2014!!! Or 2013s!!!!

So, Happy New Year to all of you!!!!! Whether you call it 2014 or 2013s(according to Apple), I wish you a super duper Happy New Year!!!! It's the time of the year where you make a New Year Resolution. Maybe it's a long term goal(like running a half-marathon at the end of the year) or maybe it's shorter, like walking your dog everyday(hint hint). My goal this year is to be a more Christ like person. I want everybody to look at me and think that I am a Jesus freak! My friend has this really cool shirt(I want it SO much!). On the front it says "I could be caught dead wearing this" and all of this information on the back! It is really cool. So what's your New Years Resolution?
