And a Happy New Year!

So New Year's in a few days, and a lot of people shoot off fireworks, which can make dog owners unhappy. My old dog used to hide under a bed because he was so scared of the noise!! Daisy(my dog) isn't really scared of them, but sometimes she barks. If your dog is a puppy, let him/her sit on your lap(preferably outside) and stroke him/her and talk to him/her softly, so that when he/she gets older, he/she will be less likely to be scared of fireworks or other really loud noises. You can try this with older dogs to; even if it doesn't teach them to be afraid of the noise, at least they will be comforted and might be quiet! =D Or you can play with them, teach them new tricks; anything that distracts them from being frightened. A really good idea(do this before New Years) is to go to your local pet store or butchers and buy some cow ankles or pig's ears(anything that it appropriate size for them, so they can't swallow it). Just try to stay away from rawhide; it isn't good for the dog and they can swallow little pieces which get stuck in their throat and then you might have to call the vet, etc. And those like pigs-in-a-blanket style treats, were the meat is wrapped up in some kind of dough or something. Those are bad for dogs to. So stay safe, and enjoy the New Years!
