Microchipping: Is it really safe?

My dog, Daisy, gets out a lot! We usually can see her across the street, but if we can't find her for a while, I start to get panicky(which is when I have to pray and ask God to help me stay calm)! So after we found her(across the street), my dad found this thing called a "Tile". It is not a finished product, but it will be out in a little bit. Anyway, a "Tile" is this device that u can put on anything(keys, purses, runaway dogs, etc.) that you REALLY don't want to lose. So my dad thought it would be good to get one to put on Daisy's collar. So I was telling my mom about it, and she said "Maybe, but how about getting her microchipped?" "Well, usually vets do that when dogs or cats are getting spayed/neutered. Besides, some people think animals get cancer from them." So then she asked me to look it up.
