Back to School
So, it's almost school time, and then the kids are gone for 6-7 hours, and the parents are at work for about the same time, maybe more. So what does Fido do all day? Is Fifi going to get lonely? What about Bella's separation anxiety? What if Stanley forgets to go outside to do his business? These are all common questions and worries all we pet parents have when its "Back to School" time. Some people say that your dog should only be left alone for 2 hours. But my dog, Daisy, can stay at the house by herself all day, if she had to! Of course, she must get bored napping on the couch, napping on my bed, and sunning herself outside. I mean, what else does she do?!?!?! She probably gets lonely too. But my mom works close to home, and my dad only works part time, so she gets some attention, at least. But some in some families, parents work all the time, and/or can't come home to eat lunch, so Buddy is left home all all day, all alone! So some people turn to doggy day cares, which are great places that you can drop your dog(s) off for the day, or if you go on vacation, and they get to run around a play with other dogs all day!! The dogs are also fed 2x a day. But that can get pricey, especially if you do it every day! But sometimes, that is the best or only choice(unless, of course, your dog has separation anxiety, which can be hard or impossible to deal with). But before you decide on a doggy day care, you should go around to the day camps in your area, and check it out. At some day cares, your dog(s) may not be treated nicely or the kennels might be dusty, etc. You always want whats best for him/her. Also, ask whether the dogs at the camp need to have a Bordetella shot(it's a shot that protects dogs from kennel cough). You want to have as much information as possible about a kennel before boarding your dog there. It is also a good idea to drop your dog off at a kennel for a day to see how he/she likes it before you go on a vacation. So, have fun, and remember, it might take a while before you can find a decent day camp!
P.S. You can ask your vet what doggy day camp they trust, too.
