What is a Friend?

This post doesn't have much to do with dogs. But I wanted to post it anyway. So, I got to thinking, what is a friend? What does the word "friend" really mean? And when I say that, I don't mean the root word or where it came from, I mean what is the definition of a true friend? Is it someone thats loyal to you? Is it someone who you can confide in? Is a friend someone who gives you hugs and makes you feel better when your sad? Or is a friend someone who would give up their life for you, or someone who would just give up half of their candy? Or, is a friend someone who has stayed with you, through the good and the bad?


There are many different kinds of friends. Some are closer than others, and some are more like you than other friends. Dogs(I didn't say I wasn't going to talk about dogs, just that it isn't all about dogs) are considered "Man's Best Friend". I have to agree with that, but that is not the point I'm trying to make. In my opinion, dogs are one of the best friends there are. They love you, now matter who you are, what you've done with your life, and best of all, they don't judge by how we look on the outside. They judge you by who you are in the inside. If you truly love a dog with all of your heart, then he/she will love you unconditionally. But if you don't really love the dog, the he/she isn't going to bond with you as much as someone else in the family(in other words, someone who loves them, walks them, plays with them, etc.). Another example of friendship is Jonathan and David in the Bible. They loved each other so much that when Jonathan's dad(King Saul) was jealous and trying to kill David, Jonathan stood for what is right(helping David escape). Also, Jonathan was to be king after Saul, since Jonathan was Saul's son, right? But the prophet Samuel appointed David as the next king, and Jonathan was not mad because his friend got to be king. They loved each other as brothers. Another example of a friend is God. He is the best friend you could ever have! If you have not accepted God as your personal Savior, then God is calling YOU!!!!! And the best part is this: if you accept Christ as your personal Savior, that He died and on the 3rd day rose again, then you will live forever! He has freely given himself so that you could have everlasting life. John 3:16 New International Version says: "For God so loved  the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." That means YOU!!!! He is calling out to you!!! If you have ever done anything wrong against someone, than ask that person for forgiveness! Ask God for forgiveness! And if anyone has done anything wrong against you, than forgive that person! If that is hard for you, ask God to help you forgive that person! He will give you the strength to forgive that person! God will forgive you of all the sin(bad things you have done), you will be as white as snow. God is there for you. He is the best friend you could ever have.

Eiley, Age 13: Someone who is honest and is always there for you.

Colby, Age 12: Someone who is loyal.

Hannah, Age 12: Someone who stays and never leaves your side.

Titus, Age 10: Someone who always stays by your side, no matter what.

Wise Old Person: Somebody who loves you, who likes to hang out with you, who shares like interests, someone who will stick up for you and defend you, someone who will be there for you you when you are having a bad day or a good one, someone who will drop everything to help you out, a person who will sacrifice their personal desires to help you out.

Jacob, Age 12: A good person.

Me, Age 12 3/4: Someone who can keep a secret; someone who you can trust and someone who will always be there for you. You won't leave you, who will stay by your side, through the good and the bad
