The Vizsla(pronounced VISH-LA), is a very pretty dog. They have a copper-colored, short-haired coat, which is very easy to groom. All breeds have a neat fact, but this one is calling you germ-free people. Amazingly, the Vizsla is an odorless dog! They don't have that doggie smell like other dogs do, because, like cats, Vizsla licks itself! How weird! Anyway, they are very energetic. These are not the best dog for apartments, because they need over 1.5 hours of exercise every day!!! But they love to relax with you, after their long run! They have a very good sense of smell, and are easily motivated. If you cross a Weimaraner and a German Short-Haired Pointer, you get a beautiful cross-breed dog! They are also a good hunter, hence the German Short-Haired Pointer in them. They have extremely long toes, which is another cat-liked characteristic. I just started volunteering at Saving Grace, the coolest animal shelter around! I absolutely LOVE volunteering there! I go there every Saturday to do Dog Walking and Animal Enrichment! Last week, my dad and I made treats for the dogs and cats, took three dogs out, and brushed the kitties! And all in 2 1/2 hours! The most productive hours of my day! We made a lot of animals happy! And so could you! See if your local animal shelter has a volunteer application. It will be so much more fun than sitting on the couch and eating chips all day long! So, please help your local animal shelter by donating, volunteering, etc. See what you can do to help the animals today! Everyone wants a dog that can do really cool tricks, right? Well, Roll-Over is one cool trick. Usually cool tricks take some practice and a lot of hard work, like getting your dog to play dead or jump through the ring, is a lot harder than getting your dog to sit. The cool thing about the cool Roll-Over trick, is that it is not that hard to do! Here is one of the easiest* ways to do this awesome trick: Before you do this trick, your dog has to know how to lay/down.** If they do then great! you are ready to start putting the trick into action(but also get some yummy treats***)! First, tell your dog to lay/down(sometimes you have to tell your dog to sit, then lay/down). Reward them with a treat. Push on their side to move them onto their back. This can be very challenging, especially if you have a big dog! Say "Roll-Over", and give them a treat. Over the corse of several to many days, repeat this until you don't have to push their side. Pit bulls are very sweet, loving dogs that make great pets. They do have a bad rap, but that is because they have a jaw that can only be released by the pit bull itself. Unfortunately, because people have trained them to be fighting dogs, these dogs are banned in many places including Denver and parts of Florida, Great Britain and New Zealand and over 500 cities have strict pit bull restrictions. These dogs are prone to heart disease, allergies, and hip dysplasia. This is a question that a lot of people wonder about. Head Halters look cruel and inhumane, but the truth is this: Head halters are NOT cruel! The idea of the head halter is taken from the horse's halti, but it is usually a little bit smaller =) Head halters are used for training ONLY. Head halters are not meant for abuse. It is a good idea, if you are planning on buying, to have someone who is familiar with head halters to assist you to make sure it fits properly. Make sure it is not too loose, yet not too tight. After that, you should make sure your dog is comfortable with the head halter before you walk in the public. Some of this information was attained by Marc Morrone's book, "Ask the Dog Keeper"

Teaching your dog manners is very important. Lay, or down is very important. But make sure before you do this, that you have a cue word picked out. You should NEVER pick a cue word with two words in it(lay-down, sit-down), that have other meanings. You will just have a confused dog. I chose "Lay" because "Down" is what I use when she  jumps up. So, this is how I taught Daisy Lay: I got some treats in my hand. I would call Daisy over. I would tell her to sit, and then I would say "Lay" and push between her shoulders. She was very stubborn at first, but eventually, she got it. I am very proud of her. Some dogs are smart, but stubborn. Daisy is a Puggle(pug and beagle mix), and puggles are stubborn. Different dogs have different personalities. Your dog might even be stubborn as a puppy, and be willing as he/she ages. Aren't dogs wonderful?!
