Choco-peanut Butter Protein Shake

I know, I know, chocolate and protein in the same sentence might seem like an oxymoron, but recent studies have shown that appropriate portions of dark chocolate is actually good for you! Recently, I have been craving chocolate, ice-cream, cookies, all the sort(but then again, who doesn't every once in a while???). I was determined to find a healthier alternative to a blizzard at Dairy Queen. Of course, it isn't wrong to indulge every once in a while, but I still wanted this to be healthy. So I was researching on Pinterest(follow me here!), and found a couple recipes, some including ingredients I do not have at the house (like Xanthan Gum????) , so I made up my own recipe. This is the order in which I add to the blender. First I start with

  1. Milk                  (any kind works, dairy or non dairy. For health issues/concerns on dairy, read about it here
  2. Yogurt               (I used vanilla, but you could definitely use chocolate instead, or opt for a greek yogurt for a healthier choice)
  3. Whey Protein    (if you don't own some, I highly recommend it. I put it in smoothies,                                    oatmeal(recipe coming soon), etc. Again, my whey protein is vanilla flavored)
  4. Cocoa Powder   (I use the Hershey's Brand, you can find it in grocery stores and on Amazon)
  5. Peanut Butter     (I used half natural peanut butter, and half almond butter; either one of these is much more healthier than processed peanut butter) 
  6. Ice-cream           (This is optional, depending on your preference; if you decide not to put it in there, it shouldn't really alter the taste/consistency. It can add creaminess, and enhanced flavors, depending on the ice-cream)
  7. Chocolate Syrup (Again, totally optional; you can also use caramel or peanut butter syrup. I recommend the Smucker's brand because it doesn't leave a mess, on the counter or the product)
Seal the lid on tight, and blend away! Pour into a glass, add a straw and maybe garnish it with some chocolate syrup on top! Enjoy!

So there you have it guys! My Choco-peanut Butter Protein Shake. The great thing about it is the flexibility you have, to blend together a healthier, afternoon snack, or a little indulgence after dinner. Either way, guilt-free!
